How to Find Shows
Learn how to search and filter shows to find exactly what you're looking for. This tutorial covers search, filters, view modes, and combining multiple filters.
The shows page offers powerful search and filtering capabilities. You can search by artist, location, and date, then use advanced filters to narrow down results.
Search Bar
Search by "Who" (artists), "Where" (location), and "When" (date range). The search bar is always visible at the top.
Advanced Filters
Use the filter button to access genre, venue type, price range, status, and more. Filters can be combined for precise results.
View Modes
Switch between List, Grid, and Map views to see shows in different formats. Each view is optimized for different use cases.
Example: Shows filtered by "Liked Venues", "This Weekend", and "Los Angeles, California"
The search bar at the top allows you to search by artist, location, and date range.
Who - Artist Search
Search for Artists
The "What" field lets you search for shows by artist, band, or performer name:
- Type an artist name to find all their shows
- Search results update as you type
- Shows matching the artist appear in your results
- You can combine with location and date filters
Where - Location Search
Search by Location
The "Where" field supports searching by city, state, or specific venue:
- City - Type a city name (e.g., "Los Angeles")
- State/Region - Include state for more specific results
- Venue - Search for shows at a specific venue
- Auto-complete - Suggestions appear as you type
- Location suggestions include emoji indicators: 🌃 for cities, 🔮 for ShowGlobe venues
When - Date Range
Date Range Picker
Click the "When" field to open a calendar and select date ranges:
- Select a single date or date range
- Multiple date ranges can be selected
- Useful for finding shows on specific weekends or during events
- Combine with quick filters like "This Weekend" for convenience

Quick filter buttons let you apply common filters with one click. These appear in the filter modal and can be combined.
This Weekend
Automatically filters shows for the upcoming weekend (Friday-Sunday). Perfect for last-minute plans.
Tonight
Shows happening tonight. Great for spontaneous plans.
Liked Venues
Shows only at venues you've liked. Requires login. The count shows how many venues you've liked.
Going
Shows you've RSVP'd to. Requires login. See all shows you're planning to attend.
Free Shows
Shows with no ticket price. Perfect for budget-conscious searching.
Small Venue
Venues with capacity under 300. Great for intimate shows.
🔮 Shows
Shows created on ShowGlobe (excludes harvested shows). Find original, community-created shows.
Click the filter button to access advanced filtering options. All filters can be combined for precise results.

Genre Filter

Select Genres
Filter shows by music genre or style:
- Search and select multiple genres
- Shows matching any selected genre will appear
- Examples: Rock, Jazz, Electronic, Hip-Hop, Country, etc.
- Perfect for finding shows in your preferred music style
Venue Filter
Venue filter expanded - Select venue type and set capacity range
Venue Type & Capacity
Filter by venue characteristics:
- Venue Type - Music Venue, Comedy Club, Theater, Bar, Restaurant, Outdoor, Arena, etc.
- Min Capacity - Find larger venues (e.g., 500+)
- Max Capacity - Find smaller, intimate venues (e.g., under 100)
- Combine min and max for a specific size range
Price Filter
Ticket Price Range
Filter shows by ticket price:
- Min Price - Set minimum ticket price (e.g., $20)
- Max Price - Set maximum ticket price (e.g., $50)
- Leave one blank for open-ended ranges
- Set both for a specific price range
Status Filter
Show Status
Filter by show status:
- Draft - Work in progress
- Planned - Show is planned
- Confirmed - Show is confirmed
- Announced - Publicly announced
- Seeking Venue - Looking for a venue
- Seeking Acts - Looking for performers
- Cancelled - Show cancelled

- 🔮 Shows - Only ShowGlobe-created shows (exclude harvested)
- Exclude Words - Filter out shows containing specific words (default: "canceled")
You can combine multiple filters to find exactly what you're looking for. Here are some examples:
Example 1: Weekend Shows at Liked Venues
Find shows this weekend at venues you've liked:
- Click the filter button
- Click "This Weekend" preset
- Click "Liked Venues" preset
- Optionally add a location (e.g., "Los Angeles")
- Click "Apply" to see results
Example 2: Free Jazz Shows in Small Venues
Find free jazz shows at intimate venues:
- Open the filter modal
- Select "Jazz" in the Genre filter
- Set Max Capacity to 100 in Venue filter
- Set Max Price to $0 in Price filter
- Apply filters
Example 3: Shows I'm Going To This Month
See all shows you've RSVP'd to this month:
- Click "Going" preset (requires login)
- Select a date range for this month in the "When" field
- Results show only shows you're attending
Example 4: Large Venue Rock Shows Under $50
Find rock shows at large venues with affordable tickets:
- Select "Rock" genre
- Set Min Capacity to 500 in Venue filter
- Set Max Price to $50 in Price filter
- Optionally filter by status (e.g., "Confirmed")
- Apply all filters
Example 5: ShowGlobe Shows Seeking Acts
Find original ShowGlobe shows that need performers:
- Click "🔮 Shows" preset
- Select "Seeking Acts" in Status filter
- Optionally add location or genre filters
- Apply to see results
Tip: Active filters are shown as badges. You can click the "×" on any badge to remove that filter. Click "Clear filters" to reset everything.
Start Broad, Then Narrow
Start with location or a quick preset, then add more specific filters if you need fewer results.
Use Quick Presets
Quick presets like "This Weekend" and "Liked Venues" are faster than setting up filters manually.
Save Your Favorite Searches
Bookmark the URL after applying your favorite filter combinations for quick access later.
Try Different View Modes
Switch between List, Grid, and Map views to see which works best for your current search.
Check Active Filters
The filter button shows a count badge when filters are active. Click it to see and manage all active filters.
